The NetApp Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solution enables customers to proactively manage their data over the course if its lifetime for maximum business value at minimum cost. It does this by aligning information with the appropriate storage medium based on business requirements such as accessibility, data protection (backup and recovery and disaster recovery) and data retention (data assessment, compliance and archival, and content storage).

The NetApp ILM solution provides customers with the flexibility to select best-of-breed elements based on an open approach driven through our Open ILM API. Unlike our competition's solutions, NetApp solutions do not promote vendor lock-in, thus enabling customers to select from complementary best-of-breed elements for ECM, data migration, and archival to best meet their specific requirements.

NetApp offers unmatched visibility into data being stored through the Information Server IS1200 and thus offers products and services for data classification for ILM activities, tiered storage through one-time services and ongoing policy-based tools, and compliance and archival capabilities through best-of-breed partners and its own product portfolio.
