28 Mar Nimble Storage named a disk array visionary
When it comes to storage solutions, many of yesterday's most effective technologies are outdated today. The IT industry moves quickly, and for service providers to keep their competitive edge, putting an emphasis on forward motion can be the difference between obsolescence and success. According to leading technology research firm Gartner, Nimble Storage may be among these groundbreaking companies.
Gartner recently released its General-Purpose Disk Arrays Magic Quadrant report, which placed some of the biggest players in the storage subsector into categories by the roles they play in the market. The paper surveyed a variety of service providers, including developers of general purpose high-end, midrange and NAS or unified storage systems, and ranked them as Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries or Niche Players. Nimble Storage was named a Visionary.
"The legacy designs of enterprise storage vendors are unable to meet the needs of today's datacenters," said Suresh Vasudevan, chairman and CEO of Nimble Storage. "Nimble redesigned storage from the ground up, implementing a high-performance hybrid hard disk drive-plus-flash model that scales linearly and economically, giving customers a platform that supports today's most demanding applications and can flexibly grow with their needs."
Gartner's accolades may be well-deserved, as this is just the latest in a string of important milestones for Nimble Storage. One of its most recent achievements was reaching a run rate of greater than $100 million in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year ending in January, 2013. The company's approach the flash-optimized hybrid storage solutions have proven popular with many enterprise customers, of which Nimble Storage has gathered more than 1,000 during its two-and-a-half years on the market. This success indicates that IT professionals continue to look ahead, and that innovative businesses are likely to see industry support.
